Our latest hostel is both hotel and hostel and it isn’t entirely sure exactly what it wants to be. The hostel social side is lacking so if we had been solo travellers it could have been quite lonely. Also, spoons. This morning there were none but I managed to remember the Spanish for spoon and they were duly handed over. It was like a rite of passage.
The hostel in Playa del Carmen wasn’t anywhere as fancy as this one but it had a brilliant terrace where people gathered and it had a lovely social vibe. Walking down a street in Playa I heard my name and thought I must have misheard but it was a group from the hostel checking in with us which was lovely. Instagram details have been exchanged with people so we can keep up with each other and give advice and information about various journeys. (Which is the best bus from Belize City to Flores which we are waiting to hear about and someone else wants to know about Bacalar.)
Today we made it to Cenote Zaci - Jeremy was second into the water. It’s not one of the most spectacular cenotes but it is in the centre of Valladolid which is really helpful. I can’t do links because writing this on the phone but if you google for cenotes there’s loads of info.
Tomorrow we take the bus to Bacalar. It could be either a 4 or 5 hour journey depending on whether or not there is a time change when we get back to the coast. Living life on the edge!
